Tam Vong. The Hardwood Bamboo Saxaflute feels like an instrument carved from a story. Known as Tam Vong, or iron bamboo, it grows dense and strong, more like a fine wood than a hollow cane. Its centre is bored out on the lathe, shaping a core that produces a rich, resonant voice with shimmering overtones. It uses an alto saxophone mouthpiece with standard alto reeds, and comes with a cap, ligature, and soft cloth bag. Available as a tenor in G major and an alto in A major, it sits between the smooth clarity of the Natural model and the gritty edge of the Black Bamboo, with a deeper, more layered tone. It responds well to both soft and powerful playing, giving expressive range and a luxurious core sound.
